AN ALL-TIME FAVOURITE RETURNS
Our original Black Baron was the first twin fin ever released in the JS range, coinciding with Parko’s focus on the pure enjoyment of surfing after retiring from the world tour. Since then we’ve continued to ride it everywhere, and with more requests than any other board to return to the range - now it’s finally back.
This new version features all the same strengths, and a few key updates. First, you'll notice a subtle flyer, which allows the board to maintain more width through the middle, but with a relatively pulled in swallow tail for flow and control. There’s also a slightly fuller nose outline with extra volume hidden under the chest / front foot, providing increased glide and paddle power in weak conditions. The main other change is fin position. We've positioned the plugs further back, so you'll get all of that twin fin speed, but with extra drive to control it.
What hasn’t changed? It has the same low to flat rocker suited to create speed and hold it. Flat deck to hide volume in all the right places, yet retain sensitivity to turn when you're going fast. Complemented by a low, slight down rail similar to the original, plus the reverse vee that prompts easy rail to rail transitions.
JS, Parko and the rest of the Traktor Team’s clear favourites from R&D all had these common design features, ensuring they’d fly in the weak beach breaks that make up a large part of almost everyone’s surfing lives, up to fun sized points and reefs.
The Black Baron is still equal parts old school speed and new school flair. Foam in all the right places to float over soft sections and fly down the line, yet still allow you to lay it on rail or bust the fins even when you’re going Mach 10. In any of these conditions you’re surfing, it's a pure twin that allows you to take whatever approach you’re interested in, from exploring creative lines and seeing how fast you can go, to combining fast rail turns with throwing the tail. Whatever way you go, it’s all about maximum fun.
